Oak leaf detail, Quercus petraea, sessile oak

I am a watercolour painter. I would like to become a better watercolour painter. What follows is part journal, part discovery and part exploration of techniques.

Many of my paintings feature botanical subjects and, from my Diploma, I have developed at least part of the relevant skill set. What interests me is that this is a rather different skill set from that applied by watercolour artists in general. There has got to be something to be said for pushing at the limits of botanical illustration, learning new watercolour skills and aiming for a result which is overtly artistically aware.
